After a few days in Bordeaux, with a few more to go, it has been an awkward vintage to say the least. I have found few surprises, and relief seems to come only in the blancs.
The 2011 La Mission Haut Brion is so far my Bordeaux wine of the week. Not sure if anything compares yet. It gets a respectable 102.02 points. (two degrees shy of the highly coveted 102.37 points- which consequently, should never be achieved)
I have to say that Bordeaux is a lot less funny this year. Their seems to be a high number of egg suckers (most in and around the left bank) and somehow at every meal, each Chateau wants to try and prove to you the red wine pairs with fish... Not that it can't be had, but to me, pairing isn't just that two things that can get along together, but that the two things make each other both better and different. I haven't seen that yet.
Dirty and Rowdy's Semillon might be needing 27.1% skin fermented Sauvignon Blanc this year...
