Huge thanks to everyone that came out on for Monday's farewell bash in the ATL. It was great to everyone and I appreciate all the support from Atlanta's Food and Wine Community.
Tues. AM came early with a flight to KC for a non-stop roller coaster of events (click for my Goode To Be First post), a slot on KC's NBC station, and then a trip to what may be one of new favorite dive bars, "The Peanut"... It is all you could ask for in a dive bar- freaky sites, funky sounds, grunge, and supposedly the best BLT in the land. "Dear The Peanut, I will not forget you! (even if you freak me out just a little)"
As most of you know, I was hired by Murphy-Goode Winery to be their "Wine Country Lifestyle Correspondent". Thanks to the efforts of many Dirty South Wine Fans, I got the job and am packing up to move to Healdsburg, CA. for at least the next six months. (THANK YOU!)
In the past few weeks, a number of posts have been written regarding what will happen to Dirty South Wine, my credibility, and if I will continue to bring the crunk.
Dirty South Wine is going to keep on keeping on. Out of respect for readers, I intend to keep both outlets as separate as possible. I will have time in Sonoma that will be off the clock, and I intend to explore, taste, and keep the Dirty South flavor going during my stay in Healdsburg. The only spots I may cross post are if I am going to do an appearance, interview, or something where I'd love to catch up with people.
But, Murphy-Goode drinkers or not, I hope that you visit, interact, and read my content at Murphy-Goode. I intend to devote countless hours developing some of my craziest, most creative, and off the wall content for this opportunity. I won't let you down.
My current Murphy-Goode page is just a shell, and it will go through some major development and transitions over the next few weeks-- it will be rockin'! I'll also be taking over the Murphy-Goode Facebook Fan Page
I can't wait to get started at Murphy-Goode and to also keep the Dirty South rocking in Sonoma.
I'll be starting at Murphy-Goode on 8/15. Dirty South Wine will remain up and running and my work for Murphy-Goode will be done through their website. This is going to be a wild ride!
I apologize for the lack of updates over the last day and a half. To say it has been nuts would be an understatement. No whining here, just running wild and trying to do everything and get my thanks out to everyone.
The house in Healdsburg is awesome. It comes with a working outhouse! I mean, C'mon! That raises the game to a whole new level!
This weekend will be wild. I pick up Jimmy from Eat It, Atlanta tomorrow. He'll be the 1st official guest in the house and we'll be attending the Wine Bloggers Conference this weekend.
After I grab Jimmy, I will taste through about 90 Cabernet Sauvignon's with Dave Ready Jr and some other wine makers-- Even with spitting, I am expecting to get a little woozy. I need to back in practice.
I will be posting a lot more this weekend from the Wine Bloggers Conference.
Again, I apologize for the light content, I just have been in constant motion for the last 36 hours. (But joyful motion!)
I can't begin to thank people enough for all of the positive messages I have received via email, Facebook, twitter, etc. It has been incredible, and I really appreciate the support.
Our weekend has been packed with activity, and it has been an incredible trip so far.
Here is a quick video of our meet and greet on Saturday night in the Murphy-Goode tasting room in downtown Healdsburg, CA.
We spent Sunday AM in the "Terra A Lago" Cabernet Vineyard in Alexander Valley
At lunch on Sunday, we had mini-competition-- Blending.
We were given 3 barrel samples of 08 Cabernet, 08 Merlot, and 08 Petit Verdot, and had to produce a blend to be judged by winemaker Dave Ready, Jr. and the Wine Enthusiast's Steve Heimoff
I produced a blend of 60% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot and won the challenge.
